Irma Maria (Virta) Lundorff - 1922
Irma Maria (Virta) Lundorff was born in Duluth, Minnesota, to Nick and Olga Elizabeth (Toumistra) Virta on March 31, 1922.
She grew up in the country in the Duluth area, where she developed her love of the outdoors. After high school graduation she attended beauty school. Her first job was in Sandstone, Minnesota, where she met her husband, Christian "Mike" Lundorff. They were married in Kahoka, Missouri on July 1, 1941, and moved to Burlington, Iowa, where their first son Richard was born. While Mike was in the Army, Irma & Richard moved back to Sandstone.
After WWII, Irma and Mike had three more children: Roger, Steven, and Kathryn.
Irma was a full-time homemaker, but later worked at the Moose Lake State Hospital as a mental health aide.
When the family moved to St. Cloud, Minn., she worked at the St. Cloud Hospital as a mental health aide. After retirement, Irma and Mike moved to Sturgeon Lake, Minn., where they remodeled a family cabin and enjoyed their life at the lake. They traveled and spent time with family and friends.
Irma enjoyed music, dancing, gardening, swimming, canoeing, fishing, snowshoeing, skating and cross-country skiing.
After Mike's death, Irma stayed at the lake she loved. She was helped and cared for by her special friend Marvin Nieman, Sturgeon Lake, Minn. Spending time with family and friends was always her priority.
She is survived by her sons Richard (Sharon) of Fridley, Minn., Steven (Beverly) of Little Falls, Minn. and daughter Kathryn Tomporowski of St. Cloud, Minn., five grandchildren, Joshua, Jessica, Bridget, Warren, and Kevin, and great-grandchildren, Afton, Ava, Vincent, Amelia, and Grace. Also, two sisters Velma Hicks and Marion Fox; brothers-in-law Norman and Kirk; sisters-in-law Louise, MaryAnn, Elsie, Mae, and Laura; numerous nieces and nephews, and Marvin's family. She was preceded in death by her husband Mike, son Roger "Rock", sister Irja, and her parents.
